New GT-R a different beast for Brett Hobson
After just falling short of giving his venerable Nissan GT-R GT3 a perfect swansong, Brett Hobson’s focus has now turned to his newly acquired later specification example as he hopes to go one better in GT Trophy.
After purchasing the Bathurst 12 Hour podium winning GT-R owned by Nissan Australia late last year, Hobson is mounting a serious challenge on GT Trophy and is sure to continue his giant killing performances against younger models.

Testing during the closing stages of last year provided many positives, but he elected to use his older US-sourced GT-R GT3 at the final round where it proved to be still a worthy contender.
Adaption to the newer model will be key as Hobson highlighted.
“The newer GT-R is a lot different and a lot easier to drive,” Hobson said.
“It’s got a lot more going for it than the old one so we’re looking forward to this year and to have a good one as GT World Challenge Australia achieves more traction, which will continue to grow.”
Reflecting on his thrilling chase of the leading Coinspot Audi R8 GT3 LMS driven by Liam Talbot, Hobson explained how hard he pushed in his attempt to take outright win number two for the season.
“I was driving the wheels trying to catch the leader there, but all these things happen,” he remarked.
“It was great to give the car it’s send off and retire the old thing. We struggled all weekend just holding onto that tyre bank hoping what happened did happen with the safety cars because we had a set of green tyres to throw on at the stop.
“We made the best of it.
“We had a few issues with the car at Bathurst and I was just glad we got those all sorted.”
With the focus turned to a new generation of Nissan for Hobson, he is eagerly anticipating the start of the 2022 Fanatec GT World Challenge Australia Powered by AWS season.
“We’re looking forward to getting out there and having another crack,” he concluded.
