S5000 from the drivers seat

STRAP yourself into the drivers’ seat of a Rogers AF01/V8 S5000 racer because a new video just published showcases the 560hp cars from a drivers’ perspective – literally.

Australian Formula 3 racer Ben Taylor, a 17-year-old Tim Macrow Racing junior driver, got his first taste of S5000 power in a pre-Christmas Winton test day.

Taylor was a Formula 3 round winner this year while driving for Macrow’s team, which has created an in-house driver development program to bring drivers through the ranks and, ideally, into the team’s S5000 program.

Taylor strapped a camera to his helmet for the test, which gives an idea of the forces involved in driving the car.

“(It’s) One of the best motorsport experiences I have ever had, it’s an absolute beast of a car and I loved every minute of it!” Taylor posted on his Facebook page.

The young Victorian driver plans to contest the full 2022 Formula 3 Championship, driving for Macrow’s team.

TMR has confirmed their return to the S5000 Australian Drivers’ Championship in 2022, with the season to commence late February at the return of the Race Tasmania event at Symmons Plains in Tasmania.
