Lillie wins, Bowe claims sixth Touring Car Masters title

For the sixth time John Bowe has been crowned champion of the Gulf Western Oils Touring Car Masters Series.

The Paynter Dixon Holden Torana A9X driver finished third in the final race of the season which gave him the overall win for the weekend.

It also ensured he wrapped up a record sixth title in a year that had everything from a cancer diagnosis to a Queens Birthday honour and plenty of on-track success.

RESULTS: Race 3

In an engrossing finale, Dean Lillie (Torana) came through from a fourth-placed starting position to win the race.

It was his third TCM race win and came in style, running with the leading pack for the entire race.

He finished ahead of a storming drive from Marcus Zukanovic (Action Motor Industries Ford Falcon XD) who started from the rear of the grid but charged his way through the pack.

Race one and two winner Steve Johnson (Full Throttle Custom Garage Falcon XD) led from the outset and looked set for a threepeat, until he suffered a tyre blowout on Conrod Straight on the penultimate lap.

Ryan Hansford (Multispares Torana), who was a mathematical chance for the title, also started from the back. He was progressing well until a brief off-road excursion at the Chase was followed by a spin at Murrays Corner and a near-miss

He ultimately finished eighth behind fourth place Adam Bressington (Whiteline Racing Chev Camaro), Cam Mason (Mustang), Cam Tilley (Valiant Pacer) and Jim Pollicina (Torana).

Ninth went to Tony Karanfilovski (Mustang) ahead of Brad Tilley (Ford Falcon XW GT).
