Liam Talbot and Fraser Ross Win Action Packed Bathurst Finale

The Fanatec GT World Challenge Australia presented by AWS has concluded with Liam Talbot and Fraser Ross claiming victory in the final race at Mount Panorama.

Following multiple safety car periods in the opening stanza, Talbot cleared out aboard his Audi R8 LMS Evo to claim a convincing win by nearly four seconds from Brett Hobson (Nissan Nismo GT-R GT3), the leading GT Trophy entry in second outright.

Brenton Grove (Porsche GT3-R 911) led away the field from pole position on the rolling start, but behind him, it was Christopher Mies (Audi R8 LMS Evo) who was the centre of attention, making his way through from the rear of the grid to fifth position when Peter Hackett (Mercedes AMG GT3) crashed at McPhillamy Park on lap 5.

The restart on lap 8 only lasted half a circuit, when Ben Porter (Porsche GT3-R 911) tangled with Theo Koundouris (Audi R8 LMS Evo) also on the approach to McPhillamy Park, which saw the safety car return to the circuit.

All cars pitted under this interruption for the compulsory driver change, with Stephen Grove returning to the race in the lead, with the green flag waving once again at the start of lap 12.

On lap 14, Liam Talbot (Audi R8 LMS Evo) pounced on Grove at The Chase, taking the top spot in a neat move, while Yasser Shahin (sharing driving duties with Mies) took third from Grove at Forrest’s Elbow on lap 17, a position he held until the chequered flag.

The Grove father-son crossed the finish line in fourth taking third in the Pro-Am Championship, ahead of Mark Rosser/Roberto Mehri (Audi R8 LMS Evo), then Michael Bailey (Aston Martin), and Brad Schumacher (Audi R8 LMS Evo), who sealed the Trophy Class title for 2021.

Marc Cini topped the Am classification in his Audi R8 LMS Evo in eighth outright.
