Christopher Mies and Yasser Shahin Storm to GT World Challenge Australia win
Fresh from hotel quarantine, international ace Christopher Mies has teamed with Yasser Shahin to win the opening hour-long Fanatec GT World Challenge Australia presented by AWS race at Mount Panorama Bathurst.
Immediately on the pace in his first laps aboard his Audi R8 LMS Evo for the week, Mies chased down Fraser Ross in the run to the chequered flag, in the process setting the fastest lap of the race on the last circuit.

Ross held station to take second in his new Audi combination with Liam Talbot, while third place went to Brett Hobson, who won the GT Trophy class aboard his Nissan Nismo GT3.

The victory ensured Shahin of the Fanatec GT World Challenge Australia Powered by AWS Pro-Am title as Prince Jefri Ibrahim combined with Peter Hackett (Mercedes AMG GT3) to finish fourth, which was not enough to keep the title alive.
The Audi R8 LMS Evo of Gary Higgon and Paul Stokell in fifth, the leading Am competitor.
There was drama at the rolling start when Mark Rosser jumped the field in his Audi R8 LMS Evo, before dropping back once he realised his error.
The drama continued for the South Australian later on the opening lap, when he made contact with the rear of the similar car of James Koundouris, who became stuck in the Chase sand trap, which forced the introduction of the safety car.
Martin Bailey had a momentary off at The Chase in his replacement Aston Martin, while the Stephen and Brenton Grove Porsche GT3-R 911 suffered multiple dramas throughout the race.
After running wide at The Chase while battling with Hackett, the pair were assessed a pit lane penalty for a compulsory pit stop that ran shorter than the required time.
The Porsche had to serve a second penalty after Brenton crossed the blend line on the pit entry, before eventually being classified seventh.
The second race of the Fanatec GT World Challenge Australia presented by AWS is scheduled for tomorrow at 8:55am, with Brenton Grove set to start from pole position.
