Field on record pace in TCM practice

MARCUS Zukanovic has flown around Mount Panorama to top the one and only practice session for the final round of the Gulf Western Oil Touring Car Masters series at the Bathurst 1000.

Driving his Action Motor Industries XD Falcon, the Victorian’s 2m16.6349s is the quickest practice lap of Bathurst ever, and only 0.8 seconds behind Steven Johnson’s qualifying record.

RESULTS: Practice 1

Title contender Ryan Hansford was second, his Multispares Torana just 0.1 seconds behind the flying Falcon that topped the charts.

George Miedecke was third on his debut in TCM, driving the same Whiteline Racing Chevrolet Camaro raced by his dad for the team.

Championship leader John Bowe was fourth, Steven Johnson fifth and Adam Bressington sixth.

Cameron Mason, Jamie Tilley, Tony Karanfilovski and Cameron Tilley completed the top-10.

Tilley, however, completed just two laps in the session with his Valiant Pacer pulling to a stop in the runoff area at Turn one as he commenced his third flying lap.

Jim Pollicina, meanwhile, failed to start a lap after experiencing technical issues in the form-up grid.

Danny Buzadzic’s Holden Torana, meanwhile, dropped an oil line mid-session and was forced to shut down his car after five laps.

The TCM field returns to the track later this afternoon for qualifying, the 20-minute session due to start at 5:25pm local time.
