Brett Hobson’s renewed attack on GT Trophy title

The hiatus between rounds came at the right time for Brett Hobson as it provided GWR Australia the opportunity to overhaul his outright race winning Nissan GT-R GT3.

Crossing the line first in Race 1 at The Bend Motorsport Park proved the ‘old girl’ still has life in it yet, however reliability has impacted on his season so far and therefore the close GT trophy battle with Audi driver Brad Schumacher.

Just 25-points separate the pair approaching the conclusion of the season and with both completing rebuilds on their respective machines, the stakes have been raised.

“It’s been a bit of a god send that we haven’t had a full-on year because as anyone who has bought parts from overseas would know, it’s very, very hard to get stuff made and to actually get the parts,” Hobson explained.

“We’re very lucky that we’ve received everything or it’s in transit and will be here in time for Bathurst where the car will have had everything replaced or renewed to be ready to go.

“We’ve done everything from valve blocks to boost sensors to driveshafts to uprights to hub down to the fuel tank, you name it, it’s had everything thrown at it. We’ve basically gone through the car front to back.

“We’ve had the outright pace, we just haven’t been able to finish races and that’s why the car has been given a birthday. The car was well up on kilometres and we’ve been getting things as we need them. This gap has allowed us to go through and replace everything that we knew was due.

“Hopefully, the old girl shouldn’t let us down next round.”

Not only will Hobson enter Bathurst with renewed confidence in knowing the GT-R GT3 is refreshed, but the Mountain is one the modern incarnation of Godzilla has been successful at.

“Bathurst is good for us,” said Hobson.

“I really enjoy it there, the car excels there, it seems to like the higher speed across the top of hill and I’ve been working on my fitness in between so all in all I think we’ve got a pretty good package to take to the last round.”
