Bathurst winning Porsche could participate in selected rounds

A successful Porsche could take part in selected rounds of the Fanatec GT World Challenge Powered by AWS.

The GT3R which delivered the German marque its first Bathurst 12 Hour success in 2019 is undergoing final preparations at Wall Racing for owner Paul Tresidder.

A significant 911 GT3R for Porsche as it not only took the manufacturer’s first win in the 12 Hour, but also marked the last win for its generation before being superseded by the latest model now raced by Grove Motorsport and soon to be Dutton EMA Motorsport this year in the Fanatec GT World Challenge Australia Powered by AWS.

“We’re lucky to have the Bathurst winning GT3R at Wall Racing,” team owner David Wall said.

“A very long-time friend and customer Paul Tresidder purchased the car 18 months ago. Paul is a Pro Am driver, but does a very good job of it, he’s always wanted a GT3R as long as I’ve known him, so when that car became available and it was the Bathurst winner that our own Matty Campbell sat in it ticked a lot of boxes for him.”

“It left Australia after Earl Bamber Motorsport ran it through Manthey, then it went back to Germany before Shanghai and came back here.

“We’ve put it back to a guise where it’s ready to use again and hopefully we’ll see out by the end of the year.

“Paul would like to do some GT World Challenge Australia rounds. Ones that probably tick the box where he thinks the car might be nice to drive; a Bathurst, a Phillip Island, The Bend.”

Wall himself has a distinguished history with the marque not only in Porsche Carrera Cup Australia, but early in his career he was regularly contested GT events in a Porsche 996 GT3RSR, but the newer specification 911 GT3R left him impressed.

“I was lucky to drive it last year and it really is a piece of work,” Wall said.

“It’s everything you’d expect it to be from watching it is even better again sitting inside it.”

The next round of the Fanatec GT World Challenge Powered by AWS will be held at The Bend Motorsport Park on October 15-17.
