S5000 featured in ‘100 years of motorsport’ celebration

Australia’s newest category and premier open wheel category, the S5000 Australian Drivers’ Championship, has been recognised in a 100 years of motorsport celebration at The Bend Motorsport Park this weekend.

Reigning Gold Star champions Team BRM are fielding Adelaide teenager Sebastien Amadio in The Bend Classic this weekend, a two-day celebration of Motorsport at the South Australian circuit featuring a broad array of cars from more than 100 years of competition.

The Rogers AF01/V8 was included in a celebratory shoot at The Bend on Sunday morning and pictured next to a 1919 Dodge Special.

The Supercharged four-cylinder Dodge, almost exactly 100 years older than the S5000, is owned by local historic racer Stuart Brown.

Amadio is on track competing against the clock against a host of high-powered Formula One and ‘wings and slicks’ machinery this weekend with a Benneton B198 V10 and a Formula Renault 3.5V8 pictured alongside the two cars separated by a century.

Other classic Touring, GT and Sports Cars were also included in the shoot.

Amadio proved strong on his first full day of S5000 action on Saturday, lapping in the 1m15s despite inclement conditions that only gave way to dry running late in the day.

Amadio will be on track again today for two further sessions before the Top 10 ‘Classic Shootout’ later in the day.
