Refreshed Lamborghini to be one to watch during the endurance season
A successful return for the Wall Racing-prepared Lamborghini Huracan GT3 owned and driven by Adrian Deitz is expected to be improved upon when it enters the endurance rounds of the Fanatec GT World Challenge Powered by AWS later this season.
Contact with a fellow competitor during the second round held at Mount Panorama required minor repairs to be made. However, the crew at Wall Racing has also taken the opportunity to complete a changeover of components ahead of the endurance segment of the title at The Bend Motorsport Park and Bathurst where further pace will be unlocked.
Team owner David Wall played fill-in as co-driver to Deitz in the Lamborghini’s last competitive outing and explained the processes being completed to bolster the raging bull’s chances.
“The car sustained a little bit of rear end damage from another competitor in the last race on Sunday morning at Bathurst,” Wall explained.
“The car needed to have that addressed, so while we were tending to that we decided to replace some things that were coming up on life and/or age of the car meaning fuel cells and components like those.
“While we had most of those components out of the car, it’s the most economical way to do all those things now and get it prepared for endurance racing before the end of the year.
“The car was pretty right anyway, but it needed some things that were going to come up on life or going to come up on life through those selected events may come up later in the year.
“The car is already fully upgraded so it’s not as if we need an upgrade, it’s making sure it’s right before we go and use it.”
Deitz is a regular competitor in local GT endurance racing and therefore is expected to contest both events later this season.
After his guest drive at Bathurst, Wall was left impressed by the Lamborghini.
“The Lamborghini is very different to drive,” he said. “I did start GT racing in 2009/10 and even a bit earlier than that once again in Porsches, but had driven some different marques as well. This is a very special car to be honest, the lap time I was able to do at Bathurst I feel like I could have taken another half a second off that and it really is a phenomenal, trustworthy car to drive.
“I can see why Adrian likes it so much.
“Under brakes especially is the most noticeable thing, obviously the aerodynamics that go with that across the top of the mountain and in other areas, you can feel it is really aiding your driving.
“It is awesome, the car is really a driver’s car and they’re really enjoyable to drive. No matter what the marque is, they’re really cool cars to drive.
Both Wall and Deitz achieved personal best laps at Bathurst with times expected to tumble after the Lamborghini’s mild service.
“It’s as fast as I’ve ever been around Bathurst,” Wall remarked. “We didn’t put brand new brakes on the car and things like that so just with brand new brakes I think we could have easily done a 2m 03s up there, which for me was pretty cool.
“When the factory Lamborghini was out here, that’s all they achieved.
“Adrian had a new PB as well, so we ticked a few boxes there and I’m looking forward to getting back there at some stage.”
The next round of the Fanatec GT World Challenge Powered by AWS will be held at Sandown on September 17-19.
