Kavich family to continue to Race for a Cure
‘Racing’ to find new treatments for breast cancer, brothers and racing car drivers Ben and Michael Kavich are asking you to support lifesaving breast cancer clinical trials research by donating to Race for a Cure: www.raceforacure.org.au.
Ben and Michael will be competing in the Bathurst 6 Hour at Mount Panorama in their pink liveried Race for a Cure vehicle, asking for donations to support the lifesaving clinical trials research program of Breast Cancer Trials.
Race for a Cure was founded by Toula Kavich (Ben Kavich’s wife) after being diagnosed with breast cancer immediately after the inaugural Bathurst 6 Hour in 2016.
Toula’s diagnosis shocked the Kavich family who had already lived through the harrowing impact of breast cancer after Ben and Michael’s grandmother and mother were diagnosed.
Having had their lives disrupted too many times by this insidious disease, the brothers wanted to use their passion for motorsport to help spare as many Australian families as possible from the heartache and loss caused by breast cancer.
The Kavich Family utilise their passion for motorsport and business activities to garner support from partners such as event sponsor Hi-Tec oils each year, using the feature event of the Bathurst 6 Hour to do so.
Sadly, the World Health Organisation just announced that breast cancer is now the most commonly diagnosed cancer in the world. The research program of Breast Cancer Trials has never been more important.
Since starting Race for a Cure in 2017, the Kavich family have raised over $88,000 to support Breast Cancer Trials.
This year, the brothers will be racing a Mitsubishi Evo X with Team GWR Australia. The team will mount a triple attack on this year’s Bathurst 6 Hour, running two Mercedes A45AMGs along with the Race for a Cure vehicle.
The Race for a Cure vehicle will have a special splash of yellow this year as they team up with long-standing supporter of Motorsports in Australia, Yellow. No stranger to the Kavich family, this is a partnership reunion after Ben and Michael’s father and 1988 Auscar Champion Tony Kavich first Teamed with Yellow Pages 37 years ago as privateers for the 1984 Bathurst 1000.
Throughout the partnership Tony and his Yellow team competed as privateers in the Bathurst 1000 4 times together with a best finish of 11th outright in 1985. The Yellow Pages relationship produced many fond family memories for the Kavich brothers and their passion for motorsport can be traced back to this period of their lives.
Yellow demonstrated commitment to helping save more lives from breast cancer this year by signing on as the Official Marketing Sponsor for Race for a Cure 2021.
John Allan, CEO, Sensis (Yellow) says, “This exciting partnership gives us the opportunity to support a cause that impacts so many women in Australia and the world, as well as continuing the long-standing relationship with the Kavich family.”
All donations are tax deductible and will support trials research to prove the safety and effectiveness of new breast cancer treatments and prevention.
“By choosing to support Race for a Cure and Breast Cancer Trials research, you’ll be helping to save lives.” says Julie Callaghan, Chief Operating Officer – Fundraising, Breast Cancer Trials.
The Kavich brothers have competed in all 6 Hour events since its inception with a best finish of 10th outright and second in class B1 in 2017 against the car driven by the previous year’s outright winners Chaz Mostert and Nathan Morcom.
The growth of the event and the inclusion of extremely high calibre drivers, such as Shane Van Gisbergen, demonstrates the impact the holy grail track of Australian motorsport, Mount Panorama, has on all who have the privilege to compete at the circuit.
The brothers will be using all their combined experience in V8 Utes, Formula Ford and other categories as well as the professional services of the Garth Walden Racing team to garner a top ten result.
