Masterton Commodore withdrawn from Super3 grid
James Masterton will take no further part in the combined Super2 and Super3 races at Mount Panorama this weekend.
In his first-ever race meeting at the famous mountain circuit, Masterton lost control of his Commodore at Reid Park, narrowly missing the inside wall but spun into the outside concrete barrier.
The crash damaged the left hand side of his Masterton Homes VE, and while he says that the damage is light, a lack of spare parts means that he has been forced to withdraw his entry.
“It has broken the bottom of the shocks front and rear, and the watts linkage is also bent,” he said.
“The car is repairable but due to the lack of parts, we can’t get it back out there.
“It’s just those couple of little parts, so it’s very disappointing, but it could have been worse.”
Masterton, the son of former Australian touring car privateer stalwart Steve Masterton, says that he will head back home to watch the rest of the race meeting unfold.
“ We’re going to head home tomorrow morning and watch the weekend on TV,” he said.
“It’s a bit of a bummer, but we’ll be back. It was my first time around the track in a race car and I love it. I’ll definitely be coming back. It’s just a shame that we can’t get back out.”
Also in the wars was Jaylyn Robotham. The MW Motorsport driver crashed at the start of The Esses, heavily damaging his Falcon entry.
The Victorian based crew is currently assessing the car’s damage and available spare parts and are confident that Robotham will be back out on track for tomorrow morning’s 11:30am AEDT qualifying session.
