Eric Bana tempted by “appealing” Bathurst 6 Hour
Australian comedian turned Hollywood actor Eric Bana is keen on a return to Mount Panorama, and says that the Bathurst 6 Hour event is an “appealing” event.
Bana, 52, has competed in sparadic motorsport events over the years, balancing his love for motorsport, cars and bikes with his acting.
Speaking on the Rusty’s Garage podcast, Bana spoke fondly of his three starts in the Bathurst 12 Hour in 2008-2010, before the race entered its GT3 era.
He says that the Hi-Tec Oils Bathurst 6 Hour for production cars, similar to what the Bathurst 12 Hour once catered for, is an event that could see him climb back into the driver’s seat and onto the famous Mount Panorama circuit.
“The 6 Hour format for production cars really appeals to me,” he told Rusty’s Garage.
“I don’t enjoy getting in people’s way. I think to turn up to a GT3 race, at the speeds that they are doing with the lack of the number of amateur drivers, it would be a stretch.
“The six hour idea is definitely appealing.”
Bana spoke fondly of his three race starts at Mount Panorama, driving with friends Tim Leahey and Peter Hill.
“It was incredible. I got to do it three times, and it was an unbelievable experience,” he said.
“It’s an amazing track, and to get to do it a few times was great. When the GT3 thing took off, it got more professional and the costs went to the next level.”
