TCM LANDS IN TOWNSVILLE SHUNSHINE
The TOURING CAR MASTERS are finally in Townsville.
Round 5 of the 2018 Paynter Dixon TCM series will see the series visit the Watpac Townsville 400 for the first time following a four-year campaign by local fans Bernadette and Geoff Cooper to bring the series to North Queensland.
The ‘Bring Touring Car Masters to Townsville’ group gathered significant support on Facebook – with nearly 2000 people following the page – and widespread support throughout the category.
Today seven cars – representing each of the brands and most of the different models competing in the series – gathered in front of Townsville’s Iconic Castle Hill to celebrate their arrival to town.

“As a category we’re thrilled to finally be in Townsville and we’ve already had a great welcome†TCM Category Administrator Rowan Harman said.
“It’s proof that the ‘power of the people’ actually works! Bernie Geoff and the supporters who have got behind their movement have been passionate about getting the category here. The stars aligned and this year we have been able to make it happen and we’re looking forward to putting on a show.
“The organisers here and Supercars have been very supportive as have our teams and drivers.
“Many of our competitors have come straight from Darwin and have been spending time seeing the sights of North Queensland and the city itself before setting up at the track this week.
“They’re all really keen to put on a great show for the local fans this weekend.â€Â
The 286-meter tall Castle Hill coupled with bright blue skies and beaming sunshine perfectly set the scene for a stunning weekend of racing at the 10th running of the North Queensland event.
Paynter Dixon Touing Car Masters competitors will tackle three races this weekend following practice tomorrow (Friday) and qualifying on Saturday morning.
The Touring Car Masters paddock is open to all Watpac Townsville 400 ticketholders located in the support category paddock adjacent to turn two.
