O’BRIEN TARGETS TCM RETURN

AUSSIE MOTORSPORT news website Speedcafe.com is reporting that Charlie O’Brien is set for a return to Touring Car Masters in 2017.

O’Brien raced his QLD Trans-Am specification Pontiac Firebird in last year’s Queensland Raceway TCM round but has told Speedcafe he has a new Camaro under construction for a TCM tilt next year.

“The Camaro which I want to run in TCM next year is probably well over halfway to being built†O’Brien told Gordon Lomas.

“At this stage it should be finished by Christmas. I’d like to run at Adelaide (Clipsal 500) if TCM are back on the program there.â€Â

The well known Queenslander – a former race winner in the Australian Touring Car Championship – has been dominating the QLD Trans-Am series for the last two years and got his first taste of TCM action when a selection of the local runners joined the grid at last year’s Ipswich Supercars event.

“Last year we ran in about 28 races but only three of those were in TCM (Pontiac Firebird) at the Queensland Raceway round†O’Brien told Speedcafe.com.

“We had about 26 wins with the Pontiac last year and this year we’ve done 20 races so far for 17 wins.

“It’s been fun doing what I’ve been doing last year and this year but I need a bit more of a challenge.”
