B6HR TO DOUBLE AS ROUND OF NATIONAL PRODUCTION CAR SERIES
THE Hi-Tec Oils Bathurst 6 Hour will double as a round of the Australian Production Car Series in 2017. Event organisers confirmed today that the Australian Production Car Series will allocate points based on Bathurst 6 Hour finishing positions, the Bathurst race to double as a national series round for the first time next year.Entries for the second running of the six-hour will open on 1 August this year, with an 11:30am start time confirmed for Sunday, 16 April.Revised and updated CAMS regulations governing Production Car racing will come into effect next year and will see common technical regulations across the Bathurst 6 Hour and the Australian Production Car Series. The Bathurst 6 Hour will retain its own independent Sporting Regulations that will be issued when entries open on 1 August.”We were pleased to offer the Australian Production Car Series an opportunity to include the Event as a point scoring round of their series,” Event Director James O’Brien said.”It makes sense for the race to double as a round of the national series as our regulations align for 2017. The enthusiasm for the 6 Hour has been very strong and it makes sense to have all levels of Production Car racing heading in the same direction.” Australian Production Cars category manager Iain Sherrin said he was thrilled to have the 2017 season heading to such a celebrated venue.”Mount Panorama is simply an iconic part of Australia’s motorsport landscape, and while only new, the Hi-Tec Oils Bathurst 6 Hour is already fast becoming a ‘must race’ on the calendar,” said Sherrin.”We have already seen a number of racers in our season this year come to our series after building cars to compete in the Hi-Tec Oils Bathurst 6 Hour. This hasn’t surprised us at all as we purposefully created our regulations to line-up with those at the event, so that its entrants would be eligible to race their cars with us.”This will continue for future events, which means that every competitor in the upcoming Hi-Tec Oils Bathurst 6 Hour will be able to continue on in our Series with their same vehicles, and if they do indeed do so, they will have already earnt points towards the Series tally from this event.”The revised regulations for Production Car racing include an updated vehicle eligibility list featuring several new contenders throughout the various classes – especially those looking for outright success.The Audi TT RS moves from invited to Class A1 (Extreme Performance – Forced Induction) and is joined there by the new Audi RS3, Ford Focus RS, BMW M4 and Volkswagen Golf R.The invited class includes the FIAT 500 Abarth racers seen in the Bathurst 12 Hour several years ago, plus Ford and Holden models complying with Saloon Car and V8 Ute Racing Series regulations.Invitational class cars will retain a 2 minute 34 second benchmark lap time they will not be able to exceed.Tickets and camping for the 2017 Hi-Tec Oils Bathurst 6 hour will go on sale later this year.
