BOWE RETURNS SERVE TO GIVE TORANA A BATHURST WIN

JOHN BOWE has got one back on the guy racing his own car by taking victory in the second ENZED Touring Car Masters race at Mount Panorama this weekend.

Bowe beat race one winner Steven Johnson into turn one and was never headed in today’s six-lap race despite constant pressure from the ever-present Ford Mustang he owns in his rear view mirrors.

Eddie Abelnica started and finished third in his Sydney’s Cheapest Cars XB Falcon Coupe applying the pressure to Johnson early in the race before a two-lap Safety Car that set up a one-lap dash to the line.

The Safety Car was called when Paul Freestone ran off into the sand at Murray’s Corner bogging his Freestone’s Diner Chevrolet Camaro in the sand.

On the restart Abelnica went from attacking Johnson to defending from a flying Brett Youlden and the AMC Javelin of Jim Richards as the trio stormed up Mountain Straight.

Running wide out of turn one Abelnica was slower out of the corner which allowed Richards to close on the big red Falcon.

Youlden however also took advantage and went to the inside of both drivers in a bold move into turn two – managing to stop the car and wrestle not only fourth place away from Richards but third from Abelnica too.

His time on the podium was brief however as Abelnica’s superior run out of Griffin’s bend allowed him to pass the HQ Monaro and grab his spot back.

In front of the entertaining fight for third Johnson attempted a challenge on Bowe however fell just short – though he did re-set his own Touring Car Masters Bathurst lap record on the final lap.

The new benchmark stands at 1m18.5062s ahead of tomorrow’s third and final race of the weekend.

Behind the entertaining battle in the top five Mark King continued his consistent weekend by finishing sixth despite having to hold out the race-long advances of the very quick Ford Mustang driven by Cameron Mason.

Mason pressured King for much of the race however ceded his seventh position to Glenn Seton on the final lap – the former Touring Car champion having started twelfth following his race one turn one dramas.

Tony Karanfilovski and Rusty French completed the top 10 while Jason Gomersall finished 11th from the back of the grid following his hefty accident on Mountain Straight in race one.

In a classic Bathurst late-night rebuild Gomersall’s iSeek Racing crew fixed broken panels chassis rails and more to get the Torana back on track for today.

Two drivers failed to finish the race – Tony Hunter retired with broken rear suspension suffered at the top of Mount Panorama while Andrew Fisher retired his Jesus Racing GTHO Falcon to pit lane with apparent fuel pressure problems.

Lubrimaxx / Whiteline Racing driver Andrew Miedecke did not start race two.

The third and final race of the TCM Mountain Masters presented by Shannons Rare Spares and ENZED will open proceedings on Sunday morning ahead of the 2015 Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000.
