ABELNICA LOOMS AS BOWE WINS AGAIN IN SYDNEY

BEHIND THE dominant John Bowe Eddie Abelnica is looming as the surprise packet from this weekend’s ENZED Touring Car Masters round at the Muscle Car Masters in Sydney.

As Bowe led from lights-to-flag in his 1000th race start the Sydney’s Cheapest Cars XB Falcon driver continued to put together his strongest weekend of the season to date with another second place.

Abelnica rocketed into the lead from the rolling start and held Bowe out for the opening lap before the Torana driver slipped past under brakes at turn two on the second lap.

As Bowe pulled a margin in front – setting a new Sydney Motorsport Parl lap record in the process – Abelnica withheld a concerted attack from Neil Crompton to secure second place.

Crompton’s third marked his first TCM podium whilst iSeek Racing Torana driver Jason Gomersall finished fourth nibbling at the rear bumper of Crompton’s Mustang on several occasions throughout.

Quiet achiever Mark King finished fifth with Tony Karanfilovski holding out Glenn Seton for sixth in a battle that lasted much of the race.

With title contenders Jim Richards and Andrew Miedecke eighth and ninth respectively Bowe continues to nibble away at the points lead with the top three set to depart Sydney almost inseparable at the top of the standings.

Paul Freestone completed the top-10 in race two today.

Behind him Cameron Tilley finished 11th Tony Edwards12th and Wayne Mercer an excellent 13th – heading a five car battle to the line in the closing stages.

Mercer held out Ian Palmer and Rusty French in a race to the line – that pair resuming their hostilities from race one on Saturday.

Brett Youlden failed to finish whilst 16-year-old Rookie Adam Garwood was a non starter after engine issues suffered yesterday sidelined his Torana for the remainder of the weekend.

The third race of the Muscle Car Tourist Trophy presented by ENZED Shannons and Rare Spares will be contested over eight laps at just after 2PM local time this afternoon.
