BOWE NARROWLY GRABS SEVENTH DARWIN POLE

STEVEN JOHNSON gave it a red hot go but fell just short of beating John Bowe to pole position for the ENZED Thunder in the Valley this morning in Darwin.

Bowe set a record 1m12.3826s lap earlier in qualifying and looked set to score a relatively comfortable pole position beofore a late run from Johnson saw him edge closer.

His last flyer of 1m12.5022s fell just 0.1196s short of denying Bowe his sixth straight and seventh Darwin pole postion overall.

A strong Jim Richards put his Shannons AMC Javelin third 0.5s behind the warring teammates who locked out the front row. Richards in turn just edged Andrew Miedecke’s Lubrimaxx Camaro for the spot – the Camaro driver just 0.0052s behind Richards in fourth after a late charge up the order. 

A strong fifth from Greg Crick made it five brands in the top five – Holden leading Ford AMC Chevrolet and Charger to the top spots this morning – the five covered by just one second. 

Jason Gomersall continued his strong run of Darwin qualifying results adding a sixth-placed effort today to fourth in 2013 and fifth last year.

Gavin Bullas will start race one from seventh in his Ford Mustang in front of the Falcon GTHO of Andrew Fisher Eddie Abelnica’s XB Falcon and Cameron Tilley’s hard-driven Valliant Pacer.

Race one gets underway at 12:20pm local time today and can be viewed live on FOX Motorsport – channel 506.
