IT’S TORANA-RAMA FRIDAY AT WINTON AS BOWE GOES FASTEST IN PRACTICE

THE MORE THINGS change the more they stay the same – at least if you’re John Bowe and racing in the ENZED Touring Car Masters.

A week after announcing his switch from his famous Ford Mustang ‘Sally’ to a brand-new Holden Torana SL/R 5000 built by Gary O’Brien’s Bendigo Retro Muscle Cars Bowe topped the times in practice today for the third round of the 2015 series.

On new rubber he was quickest comfortably in practice one – 0.5s under his existing qualifying record at Winton – though the pack closed in significantly during the second session Bowe led Gavin Bullas’ Prodrive Racing Australia-supported Mustang and Andrew Miedecke’s Lubrimaxx Camaro by just 0.5 seconds.

In practice two the top 10 were covered by just 1.1 seconds with Holden Ford Chevrolet Chrysler AMC and Porsche all represented in the diverse mix.

Jason Gomersall was fourth fastest in the second ahead of ProMaster points leader Eddie Abelnica’s XB Falcon with Brett Youlden revelling on home turf in sixth place.

Surprise packet Rohan Little was seventh in his IROC-Challenge specification Porsche 911 RS with heroes Glenn Seton Greg Crick and Jim Richards rounding out the top-10.

Crick was in the wars early when his brand-new gearbox broke forcing the Tasmanian to revert to a spare for the remainder of the weekend.

Little’s performance in the second session backed up history that shows that Porsche’s have often punched above their relative weight at Winton – Greg Keene qualifying his similar car in 4th outright last year before finishing well inside the top ten in the opening race.

Little is the only Porsche in the field following the late withdrawal of Sven Burchartz – who was unable to compete following delays in the build of a new engine for his similar IROC-spec car.

Cameron Mason – who missed the Tasmanian round – was 16th in practice two today while running in a brand new engine in his F3 Motor Auctions Ford Mustang.

The ENZED TCM cars will qualify on Saturday morning prior to the first two of three races that make up this weekend’s Rare Spares Rose City Trophy weekend.
