McMAHON TORANA BACK ON TRACK

BIG DAMAGE sustained in the recent TCM Trans-Tasman tussle at Highlands Motorsport Park in New Zealand hasn’t stopped Holden Torana racer Carey McMahon from making the trip to the Clipsal 500 this week.

McMahon – who joined the series last year and became instantly popular with fans thanks in part to his stunning bright-green liveried SL/R 5000 – and his team have gone to great lengths to turn the car around in just 10 days after being caught out in the middle of someone else’s spin at the kiwi venue.

“If anyone saw our car after the Highlands event you will know our Torana suffered extensive damage†he posted on Facebook.

“Only the boot lid rear apron roof and one rear quarter panel were not damaged. The suspension was basically torn off on one side. Thanks again to the wonder-team; Gus Veness Rod Starr Nigel Bolling Ed Veness and Rod Andrew.â€Â

Not only has his team turned the car around in time they’ve also had just enough time to complete a complete colour change on the mighty five-litre racer: Where once it was bright green a stunning orange hue now takes its place!

A huge effort by Carey and his hard working team to ensure they can support the series and make the trip to Adelaide we’re sure you will agree!

THE REBUILD:

Removed engine and gearbox
Welded crack in sump
Repaired damage to engine cross member
Repaired lower suspension arm
Repaired both upper arms
Replaced one secondary exhaust system
Straightened front rails
Straightened rear rails
Repaired rear quarter
Stripped and Repaired 4 doors then refitted windows and door mechanisms
Repaired bonnet
Repaired one sill panel
Repaired alloy radiator panels
Replaced front guards
Replaced nose cone
Replaced front bumper
Replaced front grille
Painted and wrapped the whole car
Replaced all signage
Balanced and wheel align
