2012 V8TC Calendar Finalised

The 2012 calendar for the Kumho Tyres V8 Touring Car Series is now finalised!

This coming season will see the traditional 5 round series expand to 6 Rounds and the Kumho Tyres V8 Touring Car Series will again run with the increasingly popular Shannons Nationals motor racing series.

The success story of Australian motor racing in recent years the series expansion will take it to Queensland for the first time with a round at Queensland Raceway in August (Round 4). With strong support from Queensland and an increasing number of new teams emerging from the sunshine state it was going to happen sooner or later.

In four short years the category has gone from grids of 5 cars to over 20 in 2011. With the number of new cars registered for the 2012 Series there will be grids of more than 25 cars at most rounds.

The series Commercial Manager Rob Curkpatrick is excited about the upcoming year.

“The level of off season interest has been fantastic. We have had numerous enquires about new cars and we have issued 6 new ECU’s in the last two weeks’ said Curkpatrick.

The Calendar has the Series Round 1 at Eastern Creek in March (9th-11th). It is then is off to South Australia in April (13th15th) for Round 2 at Mallala Motorsport Park. Round 3 will be at Victoria’s Winton Motor Raceway (June 22nd-24th) marking the half way point of the season. The Series will then make its first ever trip north for Round 4 at Queensland Raceway (August 10th- 12th) which incedently marks the Shannons Nationals return to the circuit.

The final two Rounds will be contested back in Victoria with Round 5 at the iconic Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit (September 21st-23rd) and the Final Round at Sandown Raceway (November 23rd- 25th).

The V8 Touring Car Series will be hotly contested with many experienced drivers back for the 2012 Series and some new ‘young gun’ drivers to keep an eye on.

2011 Champion Terry Wyhoon is excited about next year. “2011 was a hard battle it’s been a good series for 4 years now and I think it’s only going to get stronger” said Wyhoon of the series.

2012 is looking bright for the category and with Kumho Tyres back again next season we expect some great racing.

All rounds will be featured on SBS Speedweek Speed Channel Shannons Nationals & Inside Speed as well as live via the Internet at www.itvlive.com.au on the Sunday of each round.
