2010 Eastern Creek Wrap Up – Evangelou springs win

The Victorian’s Ford Falcon BA that originally came out of the Ford Performance Racing stable had also had a spring clean the red war paint replaced with a clean white livery crossed the line with a second a third and finally a victory.

After leading the first race for several laps and ultimately finishing second when passed by Scott Loadsman Evangelou had his car die on the line at the start of the second. “It’s one of those things drivers dread thanks to everyone for missing me” he said.

He charged back to second and then led the last race throughout where second overall for the weekend Loadsman in his ex-Paul Morris Motorsport Holden Commodore applied enormous pressure throughout. It proved fruitless for the New South Welshman as he was deemed to have jumped the start and copped a post-race time penalty after winning the first race and placing second in race two.

“With the HANS device on and also being so close behind Tony I didn’t see the black flag as its high up on the starter’s box” he admitted. “But really if I did and pitted it would have robbed the race of a great dice.”

Loadsman’s car was last used by Steve Owen to win the Development Series which he also competed in and almost two years later Loadsman is back and committed to competing next year along with new backer Enviropest. “It is good that a sport like ours has environment friendly support.”

Third overall after two solid fourths and then a second to finish off the weekend was John Vergotis (NSW) who praised the use of data logging for the first time as the secret of his success. The small budget team also had pit crew for this event and the results told for the once Ford Tickford Racing AU Falcon.

Next overall was the ex-Stone Brothers Racing AU Falcon of Victorian Mark Sheppard. His Warby Lodge Ford vied with NSW’s Chris Delfsma in the Century 21 AU for the position. The latter’s former Howard Racing AU headed Sheppard in two of the three races for superior race results but in the end Sheppard won out due to superior results in Time Attack.

Stephen Voight posted two third places in the Rob Tebb owned ex-Garry Rogers Motorsport VY Commodore but failed to finish race two after spinning and making contact with Matt Hansen at turn two on the last lap. “It wouldn’t refire to start with and then there was a bit of guard rub on a tyre” Voight said.

Next came the Tasmanian Sam Walter in his ex-Tasman Motorsport VY which had a continuation of its fuel pressure problems into race and forced him to retire. He then came off the back of the grid in race two to storm to the lead inside the opening lap from where he held station for the duration. Off pole for race three he was nabbed for a start indiscretion took the drive through penalty and fought back to sixth place.

Eighth overall and continuing to impress in only his second outing was Aaron Tebb in another of his dad’s GRM-sourced Holdens. The younger Tebb completed the meeting with three seventh places finishing ahead of the West Australians Matt Hansen and Dean Kovacevich.

Whilst sorted as far as engine issues went the Hansen ex-Prancing Horse Racing AU team were still sorting through their brake problems whilst the ex-Perkins Engineering VY of Kovacevich was a retiree from race one after contact with Delfsma bent the right front control arm.
